Ghost Riders (in the Sky)

This is a fun old Western song that I can remember my Dad playing on the stereo years ago.

Canadian Railroad Trilogy

I was listening to an interview on a Canadian internet radio station with Gordon Lightfoot. He was talking about how the tempo needs to change in this song, so I thought I would give it a try. This is a song that I have enjoyed listening to for years. It was fun to record this one and get it down on video. Once again, I borrowed Grandma Cindy’s Cowboy hat.

House at Pooh Corner

Cindy and I went to Annapolis to watch Kenny Loggins and his new band Blue Sky Riders. This song has been an ‘ear bug’ since the show. I figured that the best way to get it out of my head was to get it recorded and on video. Once again, I borrowed Grandma Cindy’s Cowboy hat.

Almost Heaven (Country Roads)

This is a cover of an old John Denver song that I used to know. I thought I would see if I could do a recording of it without butchering it too badly. I’m trying a couple of new techniques here, in particular how I record the guitar. It uses a technique called mid-side recording to give it (the guitar) more presence in the recording. I’m also using a different amplifier for the bass and Grandma Cindy’s Cowboy hat.

Keep on Tryin’

Pretty tough to cover a Timothy B Schmit song, but I like playing this one.

Song for a Winter’s Night

This is a Gordon Lightfoot song that took a lot of effort to put together. The guitars and the bass are real, but the strings and the percussion are synthesized using the default synths in Sonar X2. It isn’t like I can play the parts on the keyboard, but I can get the data from the keyboard and numerically adjust the bad playing.
